The majority of dermal filler are composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural derivative of sugar already present in the body. Skin aging is caused by several factors including exposure to pollutants and UV rays, hormonal changes, decreased production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid as well as slowing the production of new cells for to name a few.
As the skin cells lose their ability to produce hyaluronic acid, the skin hardens and deepens the facial features. The synthesized hyaluronic acid-based fillers can then intervene. Injected under the skin, they can absorb more than a thousand times their weight in water, acting like a real sponge; ideal, therefore, to hydrate and balance the skin’s volume.
There are other forms of dermal fillers available on the market. These are part of the family of biostimulants. They work differently from volumizers in that they encourage the body to produce new cells to maximize collagen production and thereby rejuvenate the skin. Your injector will know what type of product to advise you according to your needs upon your consultation.
Fillers are used in aesthetic medicine to fill in static wrinkles and to compensate for the loss of volume in the face, neck and hands.
These health Canada approved dermal filler mainly treat the loss of volume in the cheeks, jaw and chin and fill in the hollows and shadows caused by the descent of the face such as “marionette lines”, smile lines, under eye hollows and other static wrinkles that appear during the ageing process.
